Art Thinking

„Twój zespół wie więcej niż myśli. Czasem trzeba coś stworzyć, żeby to zobaczyć."

Metoda stworzona przez Sylvaina Bureau (ESCP Business School, Paryż) wspólnie z artystą Pierre Tectin, stosowana m.in. w Orange, Canon, Air France-KLM i La Redoute.

For Business

Dlaczego to działa inaczej niż standardowy warsztat

  • Zarządy i liderzy szukający nowego kierunku, bez kolejnego offsite z flipchartem

  • Działy HR i L&D szukające formatu rozwojowego wykraczającego poza standardowe szkolenia miękkie

  • Zespoły projektowe i produktowe, którym brakuje świeżego spojrzenia na powtarzalne problemy

Kim jestem w tej historii

Metodę Art Thinking poznałam osobiście od jej twórcy, Sylvaina Bureau, podczas spotkania w Paryżu. To on zaprosił mnie do jej szerzenia w Polsce.

Łączę ją z własnym wykształceniem w zakresie art terapii oraz wieloletnią praktyką malarską i doświadczeniem w branży premium. Efekt: metoda sprawdzona w Orange, Canon i Air France-KLM, prowadzona z wrażliwością terapeutki i artystki, dopasowana do polskich realiów biznesowych.

A method that doesn't look for the best solution. It looks for one that doesn't exist yet.

Most team methods, such as Design Thinking, Lean Startup and Agile, share one common denominator: they focus on the customer and their needs. That works well for optimizing what already exists. The problem starts where a real breakthrough is needed, not just another version of the same thing.

Art Thinking grew out of the observation that the greatest breakthroughs, in art, in science and in business, are rarely born from the question "what does the customer want". They are born where the creator has room to act without the pressure of immediate usefulness.

The method was created by Sylvain Bureau, professor of entrepreneurship, together with the artist Pierre Tectin. Developed since 2011, it now has its own academic chair (Improbable Chair by Galeries Lafayette, ESCP Business School) and a track record of projects with the Centre Pompidou, the Musée du Louvre and Stanford University, and in business with Orange, Canon, EDF, Air France-KLM and La Redoute.

I am bringing this method to Poland, after meeting Sylvain Bureau in person in Paris.

Why it works differently from a standard workshop

Art Thinking is built on three phases of the creative process:

  • Making: participants build something real instead of discussing concepts

  • Critique: the group analyzes what was created and what it says about how the team thinks

  • Display: the result is shown and translated into the language of business decisions

Along the way, participants use specific creative practices, such as deliberately deviating from established patterns, following the process without a predetermined goal, or handing their work to someone else to finish. Each one builds a different kind of mental flexibility.

The outcome of every exercise has to meet four criteria: it must be improbable (nothing like it has been seen before), subversive (it challenges the status quo), efficient (it is created in real, limited time) and personal (the maker puts something of themselves into it).

What it trains: an intelligence that no artificial intelligence can replace

As AI takes over more and more analytical and optimization tasks, the value of abilities that remain uniquely human is growing: creating without a guaranteed result, questioning the status quo, and making decisions under uncertainty.

Art Thinking can be seen as training in artistic intelligence, a natural complement to artificial intelligence. It is not about opposing technology. It is about building competencies that gain value precisely because AI cannot replace them.

What the team gains

Participants leave the workshop with three kinds of outcomes:

  • Skills: prototyping, teamwork under uncertainty, and the experience of "safe failure"

  • Mental models: a better understanding of their own, often invisible, thinking patterns

  • Energy and engagement: the method works as a catalyst, not as another mandatory training

Who it is for

  • Boards and leaders looking for a new direction, without another offsite with a flipchart

  • Teams going through organizational change, such as mergers, scaling or turnover, where communication has broken down

  • HR and L&D departments looking for a development format that goes beyond standard soft-skills training

  • Design and product teams who need a fresh perspective on recurring problems

Who I am in this story

I met the Art Thinking method in person through its creator, Sylvain Bureau, at a meeting in Paris. He invited me to share it in Poland.

I bring to it my education in art therapy, many years of painting practice and experience in the premium design industry. The result: a method proven at Orange, Canon and Air France-KLM, led with the sensitivity of a therapist and an artist, and adapted to the Polish business context.
